SharePoint intranet for a law firm

Sector: Law firm · Platform: SharePoint Online · Services: Design and build (fixed fee)

Brief

The firm's public website reflected a premium brand. The intranet did not. Partners and associates used it daily for people finding, news, and internal announcements - but the experience felt like default SharePoint.

The firm wanted an on-brand homepage and a people directory where staff could search by practice area without learning SharePoint.

Challenge

  • Visual gap between client-facing brand and internal SharePoint

  • People finding by expertise was slow - critical in a partnership model

  • IT could configure sites; no in-house design resource for employee experience

  • Fixed budget - not a multi-year program

Approach

  • Design

Homepage layout with strong imagery, clear news hierarchy, and firm tone. Design system applied through SharePoint Online templates - no unnecessary custom code for v1. People directory UX: search by practice area, profile cards, consistent photography standards.

  • Build

Fixed-scope SOW: homepage, people directory, agreed templates. Build in the client tenant - they own the result. Handover documentation for comms and IT.

  • Governance

Repeatable page templates so authors do not break the visual system. Clear ownership between IT (platform) and comms (content).

Impact

  • Intranet matches firm brand at first login

  • Staff find colleagues by practice area faster

  • Comms team can update news without developer support

  • Fixed fee, quoted after a scoping call - no ongoing license

FAQ

What did the project cost?

Fixed fee, from as little as $6,000 for a smaller company with limited scope. Larger companies with greater scope will be higher. We quote after a scoping call, before work starts. See Pricing.

Do you only work with law firms?

No. This case is from a law firm - a sector where we have deep experience. See Intranet design & build for the general offer and Law firm intranets for sector detail.

Can you integrate our existing SharePoint sites?

Yes - scope defines whether v1 is a new homepage and directory or broader migration.
